The goal of Murata Finland’s EHS* & Sustainability Development Team is to ensure a safe working environment for our employees and to continuously develop our operations in a more sustainable direction.
The importance of sustainability continues to grow, and customers, partners, and other stakeholders increasingly expect companies to take concrete actions to promote environmental responsibility, safety, and sustainable development. Across the Murata Group, as well as here at our inertial sensor manufacturing site in Finland, sustainability and safety are key business priorities. Our EHS & Sustainability Development Team plays an important role in this work, helping to ensure that we continuously improve our operations, strengthen safety, and build a more sustainable future.
What does the team do in practice? What kind of skills are needed in the role? We asked the team to tell us more.
What does the EHS & Sustainability Development Team do?
Our team develops and maintains safety, the operating environment, and sustainable ways of working across the organization.
Our work combines practical development, analysis, project work, and collaboration with experts from various functions. In practice, this may include developing new safety practices, renewing risk assessment processes, managing cleanroom conditions in production, improving recycling solutions, and implementing regulatory requirements. Our responsibilities also include sustainability reporting, as well as measuring and monitoring sustainability-related performance.
What kind of skills are needed in your team?
The role requires strong anticipation skills, collaboration abilities, and independent decision-making. It also calls for project management skills, system expertise, time management, and the ability to grasp big-picture concepts.
Patience, creativity, and a “yes we can” mindset help move things forward in an environment where established ways of working are not always in place. Strong communication skills are especially important in projects that involve extensive negotiation or are cross-functional in nature.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best part of the job is the opportunity to have a concrete impact on safety, ways of working, and the development of the entire organization.
We work on diverse projects with different teams, which makes daily work varied and provides extensive opportunities for learning. Working with different experts constantly brings new perspectives, and we often get to solve complex challenges together with motivated colleagues.
In addition, the role offers opportunities to develop both processes and tools from the ground up, making the work meaningful and allowing room for creativity. For many team members, it is also rewarding to see the tangible impact of their own work in everyday operations. And of course, great colleagues and a strong team spirit make every working day better.
How do you implement Murata’s Philosophy?
Murata’s Philosophy is reflected in our work through continuous improvement, responsible operations, and collaboration.
The role requires a significant amount of anticipation due to continuously changing requirements and regulations. We actively monitor these changes and work closely with different teams to implement them in practice.

🎲 The team members’ hobbies are just as diverse as their work. The team includes passionate board and card game enthusiasts who even compete internationally, talented bakers, and people who enjoy powerlifting, ultra-distance events, and triathlons.
📈 Continuous improvement extends beyond the workplace as well. In this team, lean principles have even been applied to optimizing morning routines.
*EHS = Environment, Health & Safety*
