I’m Elias, currently studying for a Master’s degree in Health Technology Engineering at Aalto University, with a background in electronics. This summer, I have been working at Murata in the Embedded Systems Development team.
What gets me excited are wearable embedded systems and different microelectronics solutions, especially in medical technology. I’m particularly interested in bioelectronics and developing new and precise ways to measure biosignals and in how this data can be interpreted and used in real-world applications.
Before joining Murata, I had worked on various embedded systems projects, including sleep trackers and VR interactive systems with most of my work focused on the software side of sensors. I also have a lot of experience in PCB design, and I wanted to further enhance my understanding of the hardware side of the chip design. Additionally, I had heard a lot of positive things about working at Murata from several of my friends, so the opportunity to spend the summer in the Embedded Systems Development team felt like a perfect opportunity to learn more.
In the Embedded Systems Development team, I’ve mainly been involved in developing electronics for testing different sensor chips for various teams, and got a better understanding of what is needed to develop and launch sensor fusion systems, including the different types of testing required on the physical side. It has been really interesting to see this side of the development process as well and to be part of developing future applications for the industry.
Overall, the summer has been very educational. I’ve learned a lot about the industry and what goes inside chips, different types of testing that are performed for them, and the overall process that takes place before a product can be launched. I’ve especially enjoyed seeing how different areas, from electronics and sensors to software and testing, come together to create a functioning system. The summer has given me a much broader understanding of the development process and has shown me how much work goes into the technology that eventually becomes part of larger applications.
For a student wondering whether this field could be right for them, I would say that if you are interested in electronics, embedded systems and how technology can be applied to solve real-world problems, there are many interesting opportunities in this field.
