My name is Henri, and this summer I worked in Murata’s Component Test Development team.

I completed vocational training in 2017 and gained qualifications in electrical installation, plumbing, and refrigeration systems. After graduation, I worked full-time as a plumber in the construction industry, but my interest in electricity and automation remained strong throughout the years.

I have always been curious and eager to learn new things across different fields and areas of expertise. In 2022, I decided to continue my studies and began studying Electrical and Automation Engineering at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. This summer, I graduated as an engineer.

During my studies, I became familiar with a variety of industries, but the semiconductor industry stood out to me, particularly because of its strong focus on research and product development. Murata visited Metropolia several times to introduce the company and its work, giving me the opportunity to learn more about both the company and the industry.

I heard about the summer trainee position in the Component Test Development team through a friend who works at Murata. The role seemed like an excellent match for my skills and interests, so I decided to apply.

One of the best parts of my summer job was the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals across different areas of expertise. I was also given the freedom to use my own creativity in design and development projects. The laboratory environment and projects related to testing equipment were particularly interesting and provided valuable hands-on experience.

The biggest surprise for me in the semiconductor industry has been the breadth of knowledge and expertise required across different disciplines, as well as how smoothly collaboration works within multinational teams. I was also positively surprised by the high-quality standards of Murata’s laboratory testing and the extensive measures taken to ensure reliable and accurate results.

For anyone considering a career in the semiconductor industry, I would say that it offers a wide variety of opportunities for people with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. If you are curious, open to learning new things, and interested in technological innovation, the semiconductor industry can offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities.
